A Comparative Study for Pre-and Postoperative Evaluation in Nasal Obstruction by Rhinomanometry

Abstract
Nasal obstruction is one of the most common complaints in rhinologic field, but the physical examination for nasal obstruction is often evaluated subjectively. Generally, nasal obstruction is caused by anatomic abnormalities of the nasal cavity,
inflammation of the nasal mucosa, adenoid vegetation and hypertrophic tosils in childrne. Although the history and physical examination are resonable diagnostic indicators, an objective means of evaluation is needed. Nasal obstruction could be
measured
objectively and reliably by rhinometry.
In this study, using rhinomanometry, 89 patients with nasal obstruction were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively. In compared the effect of five types of surgery by measuring the total nasal resistance (TNR) of rhinomanometry.
TNF during inspiration of preoperative patient group was significantly higher than that of control group (0.384¡¾0.381 vs 0.169¡¾0.029 Pa/m*/sec, P<0.01), and significantly decrease of the TNR after operation (0.168¡¾0.029 Pa/m*/sec, P<0.01).
There
were
no significant differences of the TNR among five types of surgery.
